The Phelps Memorial Health Center Foundation, Holdrege, recently donated $11,000 to the Holdrege Summer Lunch Program, sponsored by the YMCA of the Prairie and other interested organizations. The Summer Lunch Program will begin June 1, and be open for eight weeks, through July 23. The program will be hosted by the St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church and the Bethel Lutheran Church, on a rotation of the first four weeks at St. Elizabeths (June 1 through June 25) and the second four weeks at Bethel (June 28 through July 23).

Lunches will be served Monday through Friday, from 12 noon to 1 pm. All school age children are eligible for the program, with an emphasis on first through eighth grades. The children will need to be registered by their parents or guardians at the beginning of the program. There is no charge for the program, but there will be a free will offering if the person wishes to contribute. For more information, contact the YMCA of the Prairie, Holdrege.

The funds for the grants are allocated by the Board of Directors and are a form of community tithing. These grants focus on health care programs, fitness, wellness, education and community and are given directly to the organizations at the discretion of the PMHC Foundation Committee and the PMHC Board of Directors. Private donations given to Phelps Memorial Health Center are used for the betterment of the hospital.
