Some people in the area have recently received telephone calls from EMT
Medical, offering to place their medical information on a data base to
make it available to paramedics and medical facilities when the patient
could not speak for themselves. They do charge a monthly fee for this
service and require detailed personal information, including your Social
Security number and your bank account numbers in order to pay the fee.
Phelps Memorial Health Center urges each person to know who you are dealing
with before giving out your personal information. The information that
is asked for in this case could easily lead to identity theft.
PMHC does not know if this is a legitimate business. In looking up
references on EMT Medical, the internet under “Google” went right to
“scam,” and also included the EMT Medical 800 number as a scam. There
were several testimonials from family members who said their parents
were scammed by EMT Medical.
Before signing up with any telephone solicitors, PMHC urges each person
to research the business. If it is a medical concern, please call Phelps
Memorial, and the hospital would be able to help you. Please also know
that Phelps Memorial Health Center does not ask for information by phone
to pay your bill. When PMHC does need information from you is when they
call for information regarding a procedure you are scheduled for at
Phelps Memorial. When the hospital calls you, the Phelps Memorial Health
Center numbers will show up on your caller ID. PMHC will not use an 800
number to call you for information or to sell you anything. As most of
the community knows, PMHC has local phone numbers for Phelps County and
would not call on an 800 number to any home in the area.
