Phelps Memorial Health Center's ambulance provides Advanced Life Support
(ALS) to the
citizens of Phelps County and the surrounding areas. This is
accomplished through paramedic intercept services and long distance
transfers.
The paramedic intercept service involves responding with area volunteer
services to enhance the services they already provide. This is
accomplished by administering medications and advanced cardiac life
support to critically ill and injured patients. In addition to treating
critically injured patients, staff is also able to provide medication
and other advanced-level services to those that are not as severely
injured or sick,
but would benefit from advanced pre-hospital
interventions.
EMS staff provides long distance transfers, transporting critical and
non-critical patients to area facilities for care and specialty services
not available locally.
The PMHC ambulance service is licensed by the State of Nebraska as an
Advanced Life Support Unit. We provide advanced medical skills,
including: the administration of (IV and oral) medications, advanced
airway adjuncts, and advanced defibrillation techniques. Thru working
with area volunteer units, PMHC is able to bring a level of care to the
citizens of this area that was previously unavailable. This service has
been provided by PMHC since August 2000.
In 2009, PMHC transported patients a total of 27,000 miles, including:
427 total responses for the year
mutual aided with volunteer squads 66 times last year
