• Computerized Tomography Angiography (CTA)

  1. What is computerized tomography angiography?
Computerized Tomography Angiography is an advanced imaging technique which uses a computer and x_rays to visualize blood flow.

  2. How long does the scan take?
This depends on the body area being studied. An average length of time is approximately 30 minutes.

  3. How is the scan done?
The scan requires the IV injection of the contrast media.
Injection of the contrast may cause a local feeling of warmth. Reactions are rare but it is extremely important to report any concerns to the technologist.

  4. Preparation for the scan:
The patient should not eat or drink for at least 6 hours prior to the scan.

Medications may be taken with a small amount of water during this time.

It is extremely important to report any allergies or previous reactions to medications to the physician, nurses, or x-ray personnel.

A radiologist will evaluate the test and prepare a report to be sent to your doctor. It may take several days to receive this report from your doctor.
