Mammography

Equipment: LoRad
Mammograms are scheduled by your physician and are available Monday
through Friday from 7 am to 5 pm.
The Phelps Memorial Health Center Mammography Department is an
accredited facility with qualified mammography technologists.
Mammography is a low dose x-ray of the breast. It is the most sensitive
diagnostic test available for the early detection of breast cancer.
Phelps Memorial Health Center reminds you that early detection offers
the best protection. Be diligent about practicing breast exams and
having mammograms. It is recommended that women ages 20-39 receive a
breast examination by a doctor every 3 years and perform monthly exams.
Women younger than
40 who are at high risk should ask their physician about beginning
annual screening earlier than age 40.
At age 40+ receive an annual mammogram, annual clinical breast exam by a
doctor and perform monthly breast self examinations.
When breast CA is detected early
and treated promptly, your chances of cure are greatly increased.
All of the mammograms are sent via curier to Great Plains Radiology in
Kearney, NE. where they are read and interpreted by a radiologist and the
ordering physician receives a report with the full results of the exam.
