 The
Pharmacy Department at Phelps Memorial Health Center is committed to
providing quality pharmaceutical care to patients. It acts
collaboratively with physicians, nurses and other health professionals
to ensure optimal patient outcomes. It provides pharmacy services to all
inpatient and outpatient departments with medication safety being the
key element.
The pharmacy is staffed by a full-time pharmacist, as well as three
full-time pharmacy technicians. The pharmacy is responsible for
purchasing medications and maintaining safe and secure storage areas
throughout the organization. Sterile preparations, including injections
and IV solutions, are compounded utilizing a biological safety cabinet
and sterile isolator to ensure sterility and safety.
Clinical services consist of review of all medication orders for
interactions, allergies, duplications, and appropriate doses.
Pharmacists, both on site and from remote contracted service, provide
this service 24 hours per day and 7 days per week in an effort to
provide safe and effective drug therapy to our patients. Drug
information is provided to health professionals and the public utilizing
a number of different print and electronic sources
The pharmacy is currently working very closely with the medical staff
and nursing staff on many projects to enhance patient drug therapy and
patient safety by taking an active part in the Pharmacy and Therapeutics
Committee and the Patient Safety Committee.
