An electronic health record contains a patient’s medical history, diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, immunization dates, allergies, imaging results, lab and testing results. It allows access to evidence-based tools that physicians and advanced care providers can use to make decisions about the care of their patients.
The Phelps Memorial Electronic Health Records Team, led by Kurt Schmidt, was established in 2017 and consists of six teammates dedicated to making our Meditech system as efficient as possible for our entire team. The EHR team supports four healthcare facilities, including Phelps Memorial Health Center, Phelps Medical Group, Harlan County Health System and Tri-Valley Health System.
Jamie Richards, RN; Jenni Jones, RN; Paige Fuerst, RN; Liz Jos Jor, RN; and, Vivian Beaudette work behind the scenes to ensure our system is as efficient as possible for our team, physicians and advanced care providers.
“Electronic Health Record departments have entered the healthcare scene in recent years,” stated Schmidt, “it has been extremely rewarding for me to build upon my team as Phelps Memorial has expanded its reach with the collaboration of additional facilities. Anything we can do to share resources with our peers in the industry benefits our customers in the long run.”
Benefits of having an EHR system include: less paperwork and fewer storage issues, increased quality of care, increased efficiency and productivity, and improved patient care. Electronic health systems allow for a real time exchange as it relates to patient care. Patients are also able to access their information online through the patient portal. They can see upcoming appointments, previous lab and test results and their complete medical history.
