Family Medical Specialties and Phelps Medical Group of Holdrege, NE alongside Phelps Memorial Health Center and ruralMED Management Resources have been working together to implement changes to best serve our community and meet their medical needs and increase patient safety.
To prepare for a surge of patients with symptoms related to COVID-19, commonly known as the coronavirus, new services have been added to the clinics including an Acute Care Clinic at Phelps Medical Plaza and telehealth services at both Family Medical Specialties and Phelps Medical Group. Mark Harrel, CEO of Phelps Memorial stated, “being able to come together as a medical community has allowed for us to develop and implement creative changes to prepare for the potential surge of COVID-19 patients and provide our communities with quality care.”
The Acute Care Clinic opened its doors on Monday, March 30th to serve patients who are infectious or possibly infectious. This separate location provides distance and separation to increase the safety for all patients and staff. The new Acute Care Clinic is located at the Phelps Medical Plaza at 516 W 14th Ave, Holdrege, NE in suites 300 and 400. Phelps Memorial has temporarily relocated their oncology and infusion clinic and orthopedic and spine clinic to the hospital.
Telehealth virtual visit services are also now available at both Phelps Medical Group and Family Medical Specialties. This platform allows patients to visit with their local provider over their phone, tablet, computer or other electronic devices similar to a video call. This allows both clinics to provide services such as chronic care, medication refills and sick visits while keeping the patient safe at home.
Dr. Jeff Berney, Physician at Family Medical Specialties explains, “a fear of mine is that a patient will wait too long to receive their care due to the threat of catching a strain of the coronavirus. The opening of the Acute Care Clinic and the addition of the Telehealth services allows our patients to feel safe to receive their regularly scheduled care, and allows us to care for those who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms in an area that avoids the risk of exposure to our other patients.
In order to provide regular scheduled well care visits, child immunizations, follow-up appointments, etc. both Phelps Medical Group and Family Medical Specialties main clinics are utilizing their offices for “well” based services, and are referring all infectious or potentially infectious patients to the new Acute Care Clinic or a telehealth visit.
To schedule an appointment at the new Acute Care Clinic, a telehealth visit, or a regular scheduled healthcare appointment, you can call either clinic, and they will take care of your medical needs.
