It’s a Boy! Phelps Memorial Announces First Baby Born in New Year
A baby boy weighing nine pounds and five ounces was the first newborn delivered at Phelps Memorial Health Center in 2022.
Jasper Lee Bliss was born at 1:57 p.m. on January 3, 2022.
Jasper’s parents, Austin and Karlee Bliss of Holdrege were surprised he was the first.
“We were induced on Dec. 30th and went home for a few days and came back on Sunday night… and here he is,” said Karlee. “It was a great experience at Phelps Memorial.”
Jasper is Bliss’ second child. Big Brother, Zander, 2, was also born at Phelps Memorial. According to his parents when he asked he wanted a brother or sister he said “no.”
Austin said “happy is healthy” about the birth of his new son.
Jeffery Berney, MD, was the medical provider for the family.
The family was showered with gifts for being the first baby of the year in a promotion from the Holdrege Area Chamber of Commerce. They received gifts from 20 area businesses ranging from diapers and gift cards to sign language classes and more. Jasper is pictured in a donated personalized onesie to commemorate his special birthday. They also received a pack and play from the Phelps Memorial Service League.
