The Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (CBDCE) announced that Jenny Spaulding, RN, CDCES, has renewed the Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) status by successfully completing the continuing education renewal option process. Candidates must meet rigorous eligibility requirements to be eligible for certification. Achieving recertification status demonstrates that Mrs. Spaulding possesses distinct and specialized knowledge, thereby promoting quality of care for people with diabetes.
Mrs. Spaulding, is a registered nurse in the Cardiac Rehab department at Phelps Memorial Health Center. She has been a diabetes educator since 1998 and has had her CDCES since 2002. As a certified diabetes care and education specialist, she educates patients to manage their diabetes in an outpatient setting. She also is a trainer in the Simple Solutions Pre-Diabetes Education program. Obtaining her CDCES was one of the factors that allowed Phelps Memorial’s Diabetes Self-Management Program to apply for and become accredited by the American Diabetes Association in 2002.
CBDCE was established in 1986 to develop and administer a certification program for health professionals who teach individuals with diabetes how to manage their disease. With the CDCES program, the organization recognizes and advances the specialty practice of diabetes education.
