Phelps Memorial Health Center was named as a winner in the American Red Cross Pump It Up Challenge, which recognizes high-achieving blood drive sponsors that have grown the number of blood donations collected in their community to help patients in need.
Committed to helping save lives, Team Phelps has helped collect 532 Red Cross blood donations for patients in need over the past two years. Phelps Memorial Health Center has already achieved the honored distinction of the Premier Blood Partner with the Red Cross.
“Giving blood is a simple act of generosity that can truly make a lifesaving difference. Last year, we received an outpouring of support from Team Phelps at our blood drives, and our goal is to make it a success again this year for patients who are counting on us,” said Linda Fecht, Blood Drive Coordinator. “We are proud to partner with the Red Cross as a Premier Blood Partner and help it fulfill its critical mission.”
Phelps Memorial holds three blood drives per year at the facility. Offering them at on-site allows employees to donate more conveniently.
Loren Schroder, Chief Financial Officer, states, “Over my lifetime I have given several gallons of blood. I have really come to understand and appreciate the importance of this life-giving gift. I’m proud to be a regular blood donor and love that we have the convenience of giving right here at the hospital.”
The need for blood is constant. In fact, every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion, according to the Red Cross.
Although the Team Phelps Blood drive is not available to the community, we encourage you to find a blood drive near you. To locate a blood drive or a donation center near you, go to www.RedCrossBlood.org. The next opportunity in Holdrege is Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at the Ag Center.
